GOP AGs accuse JP Morgan of political and religious discrimination.

Republican Attorneys General Accuse JPMorgan Chase of Discrimination

Chase Called Out for Discriminating Against Religious and Political Beliefs

Nineteen Republican state attorneys general are taking a stand against JPMorgan Chase & Co., accusing the bank of discriminating against customers based on their religious or political beliefs. Led by Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron, the officials penned a letter to Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, demanding that the bank stop such behavior immediately.

According to the letter, Chase has “persistently discriminated against certain customers due to their religious or political affiliation.” The attorneys general cited the de-banking of a prominent religious liberty organization and at least two other similar incidents as evidence of this discrimination.

The National Committee for Religious Freedom, which includes members of various faiths, allegedly had its checking account shut down by Chase just weeks after opening it. Additionally, Chase’s credit card processor terminated the account of the conservative, pro-life Family Council in 2021. Chase’s WePay also allegedly refused to provide services to a conservative group, only reversing the decision after pressure from Missouri’s treasurer.

The attorneys general warn that this pattern of discrimination puts many Americans at risk of being de-banked without notice or recourse. They demand that Chase align its business practices with its proclaimed anti-discrimination policies.

Attorneys General Demand Action

The attorneys general who signed the letter hail from Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and West Virginia. They are calling on Chase to stop discriminating against customers based on their religious or political beliefs and to take action to align its business practices with its anti-discrimination policies.

As the attorneys general note, this discrimination is unacceptable and must stop immediately. Chase must be held accountable for its actions and ensure that all customers are treated fairly and without bias.
