In a thrilling display of skill and determination, the Republican Party’s team achieved a resounding 16-6 victory over their Democratic counterparts in this year’s Congressional Baseball Game.

One of the standout players for the Republicans was Rep. Greg Steube, who bravely took the mound just months after a serious injury sustained in a fall from a ladder at his Florida home. Despite his setback, the 45-year-old U.S. representative delivered an impressive performance as the GOP’s starting pitcher, throwing four innings and surrendering only five runs. Steube even contributed to the team’s success with a powerful two-run, ground-rule double, as reported by the New York Post.

The game, held at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., is known for its high-scoring nature and this year was no exception.

Steube made a bold statement on the field by wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat signed by former President Donald Trump, as seen in a tweet shared by Citizen Free Press:

Steube’s double, which came with the bases loaded, played a crucial role in a third-inning rally that propelled the GOP to an impressive 11-2 lead, according to Roll Call.

Despite their efforts, the Democrats were unable to mount a comeback after the third inning, although they did manage to score unlike the previous year’s 10-0 loss.

The Republican Party’s victory marked their third consecutive win, earning them the prestigious Roll Call trophy.

Republican House Majority Leader Rep. Steve Scalise acknowledged Steube’s remarkable recovery when announcing that the Florida representative would start as the GOP’s pitcher. Scalise praised Steube’s resilience, stating, “[Steube] fell over 25 feet off a ladder and is here — just a few months ago — and is looking great. He’s in great shape.” Steube himself viewed the game as a significant milestone in his rehabilitation journey, saying, “This has actually been a motivation for me, to try to get out here. I had a concussion. I tore the ligaments in my neck. I had a punctured lung. And I broke my pelvis. By the grace of God, I’m here.”

Leading the GOP team was Texas Rep. Roger Williams, a former minor league player in the Atlanta Braves’ system and a collegiate coach. On the Democratic side, Rep. Linda Sanchez of California took on the role of manager.

The Congressional Baseball Game serves as a charitable event, raising funds for organizations in Washington, D.C., such as the Boys and Girls Clubs. Last year alone, the game generated $1.5 million in donations, according to Roll Call.
