MSNBC overtakes Fox News in ratings after two-year reign.

Fox News Loses No. 1 Spot to MSNBC in Prime-Time Ratings

Last week, Fox News was dethroned as the top prime-time cable news network by MSNBC, according to Nielsen ratings released on Tuesday. The numbers revealed that MSNBC experienced a remarkable 53.5% increase in viewership, averaging 1.489 million viewers in the week beginning June 5. The highlight of the week was Thursday evening’s episode of “The Last Word With Lawrence O’Donnell,” which attracted a staggering 2.608 million viewers. This episode coincided with former President Donald Trump’s announcement of his indictment on social media.

Shifting Tides: Fox News Takes Second Place

Meanwhile, Fox News secured the second spot with an average of 1.484 million viewers, marking a 10.9% increase from the previous week’s average of 1.338 million. This is the first time in 120 weeks that Fox News has fallen from its No. 1 position. Notably, shows like “Hannity,” “The Ingraham Angle” on Thursdays, and “Fox News Tonight” hosted by Harris Faulkner remained among the top 20 most popular prime-time political talk shows.

CNN also experienced a significant boost, with a 32.5% increase in viewership, propelling it seven spots higher than the previous week and securing the seventh place. It is worth mentioning that CNN recently dismissed its CEO, Chris Licht, and is yet to find a replacement.

All three networks, MSNBC, Fox News, and CNN, collectively witnessed a 29.5% increase in viewership, indicating a growing interest in cable news.

Former President Trump, who has previously appeared on town halls hosted by Fox News and CNN as a Republican candidate for the presidential nominee, will next be featured on Fox News alongside Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC).
