Did Trump Help Biden by Skipping the Debates?
In a surprising twist, “Fox & Friends” co-host Steve Doocy suggested this week that former President Donald Trump may have inadvertently helped President Joe Biden by skipping the Republican Party’s first presidential primary. Doocy argued that Trump’s absence opened the door for Biden to avoid debating him if Trump becomes the Republican Party nominee.
Doocy’s remarks on Monday came after Trump referenced a CBS News national poll that showed him leading at 62%, with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis at 16%, and other candidates in the low single digits. Trump used this as justification for his decision not to participate in the debates.
According to Doocy, Trump believes that voters already know who he is and boldly declared, “I WILL THEREFORE NOT BE DOING THE DEBATES!”
However, Doocy pointed out the potential unintended consequence of Trump’s decision. “Unfortunately, by skipping the debates, Donald Trump may actually be helping Joe Biden because he’s giving Biden an excuse for not debating him,” Doocy explained.
Doocy revealed that Ronna McDaniel, former chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, had tried to convince Trump to participate in the first debate. But Trump remained firm in his decision, stating, “Nope, not going to do it.”
Co-host Brian Kilmeade expressed skepticism, questioning how Biden could rationalize avoiding a debate with Trump. Doocy responded, “Because if Donald Trump says, ’everybody knows me, I don’t need to do it,’ then Joe Biden goes, ‘everybody knows me, I’m president’.”
Co-host Ainsley Earhardt chimed in, suggesting that Biden would love to have an excuse not to debate. Kilmeade added, “I mean, if [Biden] doesn’t want to do the debate, I could totally understand it because he can’t get through a sentence. If you watched him over the weekend, just slur his way through that mini summit and who knows what’s going to happen in Hawaii.”
Doocy concluded by emphasizing Biden’s potential response if Trump doesn’t participate in the debates. ”Joe Biden would love to see Trump not do it, then he’s got a perfect [response]: ‘I don’t have to do it either then, he didn’t do it!'”
