Female-Led Remake of The Office in Development

A female-led remake of NBC’s The Office is in the development process.

Get ready for a new take on the beloved sitcom! Prime Video Australia is developing a female-led remake of The Office, with Felicity Ward taking on the lead role of Hannah Howard. Ward will be stepping into the shoes of Ricky Gervais’s David Brent and Steve Carell’s Michael Scott, according to reports.

Howard is the awkward head of her branch of the packaging company Flinley Craddick, and things get even more complicated when an order from her head office directs everyone to work from home. It’s sure to be a hilarious and relatable take on modern office life.

Excitement and Mixed Reactions

Creator Ricky Gervais is excited to see how the new show will navigate modern office politics. “Office politics have changed a bit in 20 years, so can’t wait to see how they navigate a modern-day David Brent,” he said.

Senior Development Executive Prime Video Australia Sarah Christie is also thrilled to bring the show to audiences around the world. “We are honored to continue the international comedy legacy of The Office locally while introducing new, quintessentially Australian characters,” she said.

However, not everyone is on board with the idea of a female-led remake. Some social media users have expressed mixed reactions, with one Twitter user asking, “But why? The Office doesn’t need a remake.”

Others have accused critics of being sexist, pointing out that the US version of The Office was itself a remake. “This surely shows that MEN hate on anything led [by] women,” one user tweeted.

Despite the mixed reactions, we can’t wait to see what the new show has in store!
