Fauci faces potential criminal charges, referred to top DC prosecutor.
Criticizing the Inaction of Attorney General Merrick Garland
Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky is taking action against Dr. Anthony Fauci, the former White House chief medical adviser and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Paul has referred the case to the U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C., in hopes of getting someone to prosecute Fauci for his alleged lies to Congress.
Paul, who frequently clashed with Fauci over COVID-19 policies and Fauci’s connections to the Wuhan lab, sent a criminal referral to Garland last month. The referral accuses Fauci of lying to Congress and requests prosecution since Congress does not have the power to prosecute.
“Since AG Garland doesn’t appear to want to do his job, I’ve today sent evidence for a criminal referral for Anthony Fauci to the US Attorney in DC,” the senator said Tuesday on Twitter.

Paul believes that a congressional hearing is not the appropriate place for Fauci to play political games, especially when the health and well-being of American citizens are at stake.

Paul’s Letter to U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves
In his letter to U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves, Paul expressed his concerns about Fauci’s inconsistent statements. He highlighted Fauci’s denial of funding gain-of-function research before Congress, his dispassionate view on the lab leak hypothesis to the press, and his acknowledgment of gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in private conversations with colleagues.
Paul also mentioned that Fauci’s colleagues have acknowledged his inconsistency.
The Daily Mail reported that Graves’ office confirmed receiving the letter, and Paul’s office stated that no action was taken by Garland regarding the previous referral.
In a heated hearing in July 2021, Paul accused Fauci of lying to Congress and read from the NIH definition of “gain of function.” He argued that the evidence contradicted Fauci’s claims and accused him of trying to obscure responsibility for the global pandemic.
Fauci responded defiantly, stating that he had never lied before Congress and that Paul did not know what he was talking about.
Paul shared evidence on Twitter, including a screenshot of an email from Fauci expressing concerns about the origins of the virus and the possibility of intentional mutation.
This directly contradicts everything he said in committee hearing to me, denying absolutely that they funded any gain of function, and it’s absolutely a lie. That’s why I sent an official criminal referral to the DOJ. https://t.co/Y191SmMiIr

The screenshot quoted Fauci expressing suspicion about the origins of the virus and the possibility of intentional mutation.
Paul’s actions reflect his determination to hold Fauci accountable for his statements and ensure transparency regarding the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.
