Ed Martin spit on during interview after Trump pulled nomination

Ex-DC US Attorney spit on during interview after Trump pulled nomination

Ex-acting Washington, D.C., U.S Attorney Ed Martin was spat on by a passerby during an interview with Newsmax on Thursday afternoon.

President Donald Trump pulled Martin’s nomination as D.C. U.S. Attorney on the same day following extensive controversy over his background.

A woman was seen approaching Martin and yelling something before pointing to him and saying, “You are Ed Martin!” She then spat on Martin, walking away with a dog on a leash before looking back at him to say, “You are a disgusting man.”

It’s unclear who the woman is. Martin commented on the encounter Friday morning.

“Among the many reasons that I wear that great coat …” Martin wrote on X with a shrugging emoji.

The journalist who did the interview, Newsmax’s Rob Schmitt, wrote: “This afternoon acting DC US Atty Ed Martin was spit on by a psychotic lib during our interview. Hope she’s ready for a nice stretch in jail.”

The Daily Caller reported Friday that the U.S. Marshals Service knows who the woman is and an arrest warrant has been issued. The person could face charges of assault, battery, or targeting a federal official, the latter being the most serious.

Trump said on Thursday night that Martin will be moving to the Department of Justice to become the “new Director of the Weaponization Working Group, Associate Deputy Attorney General, and Pardon Attorney.”

“Ed Martin has done an AMAZING job as interim U.S. Attorney, and will be moving to the Department of Justice as the new Director of the Weaponization Working Group, Associate Deputy Attorney General, and Pardon Attorney,” he wrote on Truth Social. “In these highly important roles, Ed will make sure we finally investigate the Weaponization of our Government under the Biden Regime, and provide much needed Justice for its victims. Congratulations Ed!”

Trump said Fox News host and former Westchester County District Attorney and judge Jeanine Pirro will be the new interim D.C. U.S. Attorney.

“Jeanine is incredibly well qualified for this position, and is considered one of the Top District Attorneys in the History of the State of New York,” he wrote on Truth Social. “She is in a class by herself. Congratulations Jeanine!”
