DHS Secretary Mullin touts ‘deportations are way up’ of the ‘worst of the worst’ criminals

Deportations of illegal immigrants in the United States have significantly increased compared to 2025, with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) focusing on removing the most perilous offenders, described as the “worst of the worst.” DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin announced that, within approximately six weeks, deportation numbers for 2026 are expected to surpass those of 2025, emphasizing a targeted effort against immigrants with violent criminal histories, final deportation orders, felony records, or those who have served time in state prisons. Mullin stated that the department is prioritizing individuals with active felonies, parole violations, or visa program breaches. Recent DHS releases have highlighted arrests of individuals involved in serious crimes such as human smuggling, trafficking, drug trafficking, pedophilia, murder, and rape, reinforcing the focus on removing violent criminal illegal immigrants from the country.

Deportations of illegal immigrants in the United States have substantially increased compared to totals from 2025. That was one of the achievements Department of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin discussed during an interview over the weekend about his first 100 days on the job. He touted the increase in deportation numbers while explaining how DHS has focused on removing the “worst of the worst” criminal illegal immigrants in the U.S.

“Well, first of all, right now, we’re on a path this year, ‘26, to well surpass what we did in ‘25,” Mullin said in an interview with Breitbart’s Matt Boyle. “Our numbers are, in fact, within probably I’d say probably, within the next six weeks we’ll probably pass what we deported all of ’25, what we’re going to do in ‘26. Maybe two months, but I think we’ll definitely do it within two months, but it should be probably six weeks at the current rate.”

Mullin then elaborated that, regarding deportations, DHS was targeting the illegal immigrants with violent criminal histories who are residing in the country. Dubbing them the “worst of the worst,” Mullin explained that those being deported already had final deportation orders issued, those with felony records, and those who were arrested, served jail time, and released from state penitentiaries.

“So, what we’re doing is we’re looking at the worst of the worst,” Mullin said. “We’re going after people that have already had final orders, meaning that they’ve already had final orders from a judge that says, ‘Hey you got to go. You already went through the appeal process, you didn’t show up for your last court, so you got to go.’”

“We’re going after people that have felonies, that have active felonies on them,” said Mullin. “We’re going after individuals that have been released from state penitentiaries that had already served their time but they’re still in the country, so now we’re getting a warrant out for their arrest because they’re no longer allowed to stay inside the country because … they either violated their parole or they violated their agreement with the United States by allowing them to come in through the visa program.”

“Our arrests are on track, our deportations are way up, and we’re going to continue to go after the worst of the worst,” Mullin said. “That’s our focus. We’re trying to get the criminals off our streets.

Recent press releases by the Department of Homeland Security highlight some of the worst of the worst criminal illegal immigrants Mullin mentioned in his interview. For example, in June, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials arrested illegal immigrants involved in human smuggling, human trafficking, drug trafficking, pedophilia, murder, and rapists, among other violent criminal charges.
