DeSantis fires back at heckler over shooting blame: ‘I won’t tolerate it’
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Slams Heckler During Press Conference
During a press conference in Jacksonville, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis showed his strong leadership and shut down a protester who tried to blame him for a recent shooting in the city. The incident took place at Culhane’s Irish Pub, where DeSantis was speaking at an event.
DeSantis, who is also running for president, had previously condemned the shooting when it occurred. As the heckler continued to talk, DeSantis firmly stated, “First of all, I did not allow anything with that. I’m not going to let you accuse me of committing criminal activity. I am not going to take that.”
The governor then addressed the heckler’s claim that the shooter should have been ruled ineligible to buy a gun. DeSantis explained, “He should have been ruled ineligible, but they didn’t involuntarily commit him and so, they weren’t—” However, the heckler continued to interrupt.
In response to the heckler’s claims, DeSantis emphasized, “No, no. There is the truth. There is something about the truth. It’s not — everyone doesn’t have their own truth. No.” He firmly stated that blaming him for the actions of a disturbed individual was inappropriate and unacceptable.
The heckler then accused DeSantis of allowing something to happen, to which the governor fired back, “Oh, that is nonsense. That is such nonsense. We’ve done more to support law enforcement in this state than anybody and throughout the United States. Our crime rate in Florida is at a 50-year low.”
DeSantis highlighted the state’s commitment to public safety and the policies enacted to ensure people have a chance to live in safety. He emphasized that Florida has attracted people due to its dedication to public safety and holding those who harm others accountable. The governor concluded, “When you do the crime, you do the time.”
