DeSantis stands firm on crime policies: ‘I won’t be blamed for one person’s actions.’

Gov. Ron DeSantis Defends⁤ Crime Policies in Florida

During a press conference on Thursday, Gov. Ron DeSantis passionately defended his crime policies in the Sunshine ​State, refusing⁣ to ⁢let anyone accuse him of criminal activity. The ‌governor‌ was confronted by an individual who claimed that⁤ his policies had harmed people and allowed weapons to flood the‍ streets, referencing a racially motivated ⁣shooting in Jacksonville last ⁢month ‍that left three people dead.

DeSantis Stands Firm

“I’m not ​going‌ to let you ‍accuse ⁤me of committing criminal activity. I‍ am not going to take that,” DeSantis firmly⁢ responded to the ⁢accusation.

The governor then addressed⁤ the issue of the ⁤shooter in the Jacksonville incident, emphasizing that‌ under existing⁤ law, the individual should not⁤ have had access to the gun. DeSantis referred to the Baker Act,‍ which allows for the involuntary‌ commitment of individuals with mental health complications. He stated that the shooter should have been ruled ineligible, but unfortunately,⁢ he was⁤ not‌ involuntarily committed.

“There is the truth, there is ‍something about the truth, ​it’s not everyone has their own truth. You ‍don’t get to come here and blame me for some⁣ madman. That is not appropriate, ⁢and I’m not⁢ going to accept‍ it,” DeSantis⁢ firmly asserted.

Touting Success and Rejecting COVID-19 Measures

DeSantis then ⁢highlighted his ⁣record with law enforcement and proudly pointed to the decreasing crime rates in Florida in ⁣recent years. The governor had this exchange during a press conference where he reiterated his stance against⁤ reintroducing any COVID-19 measures, such as ⁤lockdowns, masking, or social distancing.
