Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Meets with Iowa Voters
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis made a stop in Sioux Center, Iowa on Saturday to meet with voters and give a speech about the future of conservatism. Speaking in front of a packed venue of approximately 650 people, DeSantis touted his record as Florida’s governor and recent legislative victories.
Endorsements from Iowa Lawmakers
DeSantis’ trip to Iowa comes after he secured endorsements from 37 state-level Iowa lawmakers, including Senate President Amy Sinclair, Senate Majority Whip Waylon Brown, House Majority Leader Matt W. Windschitl, and House Speaker Pro Tempore John H. Wills.
The Importance of Winning in 2024
During his speech, DeSantis warned that the political Left is “playing for keeps” and that Republicans must win big in 2024 to prevent serious consequences for the country. He stated that if Democrats win in 2024, they will try to pack the U.S. Supreme Court, eliminate the Electoral College, make Washington, D.C. a state, and eliminate voter ID in every jurisdiction in the country.
DeSantis emphasized the importance of providing a positive alternative for the future of the country and making the 2024 election a referendum on Joe Biden and his failures. He urged Republicans not to get distracted and focus on the past or other side issues.
Connecting with Supporters
After delivering his speech, DeSantis spoke one-on-one with supporters and took photos. Despite false claims from the Associated Press that he “made little effort to connect with voters one-on-one,” DeSantis worked the crowd and shook hands with attendees.
