Def Leppard Drummer Rick Allen Attacked By Teenager On Spring Break In Florida, Authorities Say

Def Leppard Drummer Rick Allen was allegedly assaulted by a youngster outside of Fort Lauderdale Beach’s Four Seasons Hotel. Florida Monday

Hartley was arrested and charged following the incident with two counts battery, four criminal mischief and abuse an elderly or disabled person. According to the publication, Allen had previously lost one of his arms in a car accident in 1984.

One 911 caller reported the teenager appeared “highly intoxicated” During the incident.

“I have an individual who has been running around breaking windows and has beat up a couple of guests at the Four Seasons, as well,” Another 911 caller stated, per 7 News Miami.

Allen plans to press charges. The Def Leppard drummer was in town performing in concert with Mötley Crüe at the Seminole Hard Rock.

Sam Halpern is Hartley’s lawyer and describes the accused assailant like “an extremely sweet young man,” Per The Miami Herald. “He’s never been in trouble with the law before,” He said that his client was an excellent athlete, and that he continued to play sports recreationally in college.

“He was regarded highly with close family and friends for years,” Halpern continued.

Hartley was released from bond and will likely return to Ohio. 

After his mother placed an advertisement for a replacement drummer, Allen joined Def Leppard on Allen’s fifteenth birthday in 1978.

The accident occurred in 1984 when the Corvette of the British musician crashed into a wall. Medical professionals reattached his arm, but he later needed to have it amputated because of infection.

Since the 1984 accident, the drummer has been using modified equipment with one arm.
