Darius Rucker Says He’s Grateful He Gets To Do What He Loves, But Admits There’s A Downside

Country star Darius Rucker expressed his appreciation for being able to pursue his passion for music, but acknowledged the downside of his career is the time spent away from his children.

Rucker, who was the lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish for 15 years before making the switch to country music, reminisced about the moment he decided to try his hand at country music. “When I very first started, there was a lot of naysayers and everything, but once ‘Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It’ hit, I think acceptance started,” he shared in an interview with Fox News.

Since the release of “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It” in 2008, Rucker has released four country music albums, with multiple hit songs, and even earned induction into the Grand Ole Opry in 2012. However, despite his success, Rucker admitted that being away from his kids is the most challenging aspect of his career.

Regarding his love for country music, Rucker explained, “It’s real. It’s stories and it’s life. It’s what music is supposed to be. It touches you in the way I think music’s supposed to touch you.” The singer expressed his gratitude for being able to continue playing music at 56 years old, stating, “I have no idea why any of this is happening. I just know I’m enjoying it.”

Rucker was previously married to Beth Leonard from 2000-2020, and they have two children together, in addition to Rucker’s daughter from a previous relationship.
