Court blocks Alabama Republicans’ plan to instate new map
Federal judges blocked Alabama Republicans from adopting a new congressional district map intended to remove one of the state’s two remaining Democratic-leaning districts. Alabama’s current map includes five Republican seats and two Democratic seats, the latter preserved due to court-mandated majority-Black districts. A three-judge panel rejected the Republicans’ effort, preventing them from eliminating one of those Democratic seats.
