Bud Light faces new competition as rival beer climbs charts.

Bud Light May Lose Top Spot to Modelo Especial Amid Conservative Boycott

According to data obtained by the New York Post, Bud Light may no longer be the most popular beer in the world. Sales of Modelo Especial, a Mexican lager, are closing in on Bud Light’s top spot. Marketing research firms Bump Williams Consulting and NielsonIQ reported that Modelo Especial is nearing Bud Light’s place in sales.

Marketing consultant Bump Williams told the Post, “While Bud Light loses week after week, Modelo Especial gains week after week and now Modelo outsells Bud Light on a national basis across all trade channels combined. If this continues Modelo will surpass Bud Light for the year.”

It’s worth noting that the Modelo brand is owned by the Belgian conglomerate Anheuser-Busch InBev, just like Bud Light. However, in the United States, Constellation Brands controls Modelo sales under a 2013 antitrust settlement.

Bud Light’s sales have been declining for six straight weeks after a disastrous business partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. The fall from grace has accelerated existing market struggles for the brand, which has struggled to compete in a market being changed by the growth of microbreweries and artisanal beers.

Bud Light Gets the Worst News as Another Beer Threatens to Overtake Woke Brand on Charts

The controversy surrounding Bud Light’s recent ad campaign featuring a medieval setting and a character who is seemingly transgender has led to a decline in sales for the beer brand, according to recent reports.

“Bud Light’s woke advertising campaign is failing miserably,” said Justin Danhof, general counsel for the National Center for Public Policy Research, in a statement to The Western Journal.

“The company’s sales are down, and its brand is being tarnished. This is what happens when a company puts woke politics ahead of its customers. The market has spoken, and it is rejecting Bud Light’s divisive and insulting advertising campaign.”

The phenomenon has extended to other Anheuser-Busch beers, according to one analyst.

“There continues to be contagion to the wider [Anheuser-Busch] brand portfolio, with Budweiser, Busch and Michelob all weak again,” analyst Simon Hales said of Bud Light’s prospects in a statement provided to Yahoo Finance.

“The latest data shows little sign that consumers are moving on from the Bud Light controversy, and we expect these issues will continue to weigh on investor sentiment.”

Competitors See Growth

Other competitors to Bud Light — such as Yuengling, Pabst Blue Ribbon and Coors Light — have seen their share of the beer market grow amid Bud Light’s decline, according to the Post.

It seems that Bud Light’s attempt to appeal to a certain demographic has backfired, and the brand is now paying the price. As the market shifts, it remains to be seen whether Bud Light will be able to recover from this misstep.
