Trump Admin Announces Celebrity-Packed ‘Apprentice’-Style Business Competition
Five small businesses are competing in a live “Apprentice”-style event called the Million Dollar Pitch Competition, held in Washington, D.C., on September 18. This competition, launched by the Small Business Administration (SBA) to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary and small business contributions, aims to showcase entrepreneurial innovation and resilience. The finalists include companies from Maine, Georgia, Iowa, Wyoming, and California, competing for cash prizes totaling $1 million-awarded as $400,000 for first place, $250,000 for second, $150,000 for third, $125,000 for fourth, and $75,000 for fifth. Judges include notable figures such as rapper Nicki Minaj, entrepreneur Grant Cardone, Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia, and actor Dean Cain. The event emphasizes promoting American competitiveness, innovation, economic prospect, and employment, with the prize money donated by Clover Network Inc. The competition involved multiple judging levels based on impact, industry leadership, and readiness.
Five small businesses will compete in an “Apprentice” style competition this month with $1 million in prize money on the table.
“As our nation marks its 250th anniversary, the SBA is celebrating America’s legacy of free enterprise through the Million Dollar Pitch Competition — a historic live event showcasing the essential contributions of America’s small businesses,” SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler said, according to Fox News.
The five finalists are defense technology firm Compotech, Inc. of Brewer, Maine; metalworking machinery manufacturer Winton Machine of Suwanee, Georgia; plastic mold manufacturing company Plas-Tech Tooling based in Garner, Iowa; a pressure vessel manufacturer Red River from Gillette, Wyoming; and machinery manufacturing firm VetPowered LLC, which is based in San Diego, California.
Rapper Nicki Minaj, entrepreneur and private equity fund manager Grant Cardone, co-founder of Airbnb and U.S. Chief Design Officer Joe Gebbia will serve as judges. Actor Dean Cain will host the event, according to the Small Business Administration.

The live event takes place Sept. 18 in Washington.
The top firm will get $400,000, second place gets $250,000, third place gets $150,000; and fourth place will take home $125,000, leaving fifth place with $75,000.
The prize money was donated by Clover Network, Inc., according to a Small Business Administration news release.

“This nationwide contest will award a total of $1 million in cash prizes to small businesses whose innovation, grit, and leadership are helping build America’s next great era of strength, prosperity, and competitiveness on the world stage,” she said.
“We look forward to demonstrating how small business is big business for our nation -– and to highlighting the resilient job creators and local businesses who are delivering the services, products, and solutions that are defining America’s future,” she said.
The Patriot Pitch Competition had four levels of judging.
Applicants were judged on strengthening American competitiveness; innovating and demonstrating an outsized impact within an industry; delivering economic opportunity and quality jobs; showing strong fundamentals and execution readiness.
The competition was launched in May.
As noted by Fox, President Donald Trump had a hit reality show, “The Apprentice,” in which potential employees faced multiple challenges to win a job.
