Brad Lander endorses Abdul el Sayed in Michigan
Brad Lander, fresh off his primary victory over an incumbent House Democrat in New York, is endorsing Abdul el Sayed, a progressive ally running for the Democratic nomination in Michigan’s marquee Senate race.
“We need Abdul in the Senate to end the reign of billionaires and special interests, so Congress can deliver for working people,” Lander said in a statement announcing his endorsement, adding that the two would be “partners” in Congress on foreign policy.

Lander highlighted, in particular, their shared skepticism of Israel and reiterated that he wanted to end U.S. military aid to the Jewish state over its casualty-heavy actions in Gaza.
“We share the belief that the rights and safety of Jewish and Muslim people are inextricably intertwined, from the Midwest to Midtown to the Middle East,” Lander said.
Lander is part of a progressive wave that swept New York last month and unseated Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) by a whopping 32-point margin with the help of socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Now, the Left is hoping to carry that momentum into Michigan, where el Sayed has become the front-runner in a two-way primary against Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI), a more centrist Democrat backed by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).
Both Lander and el Sayed have run campaigns railing against the political establishment, taking aim specifically at Schumer.
El Sayed has signaled he would oppose giving Schumer another term as Senate leader, while Lander called for “new leadership in the party” when asked about the prospect of him running for another term in 2028.

In a statement welcoming the endorsement, el Sayed said that Lander’s “landslide win shows us how hungry people are for change.” As of now, Stevens is polling roughly 5 points behind el Sayed.
The primary in Michigan is scheduled for Aug. 4, with the winner slated to face former Rep. Mike Rogers, a Republican, in the general election.
