Border Patrol head: Title 42 surge peak is over.

Border Patrol Chief Rejects Claims of Border Collapse

What You Need to Know:

The U.S. Border Patrol Chief, Raul Ortiz, has dismissed claims that the U.S. immigration system and southern border will collapse when public health policy Title 42 is rescinded later this week. Ortiz told reporters that he does not expect agents to see up to 18,000 arrests in a single day as had been forecast by the Department of Homeland Security when Title 42 was slated to end last year.

Former President Donald Trump has also weighed in on the issue, claiming that “hundreds of thousands of people will be pouring into our Country today from ‘parts unknown.’” However, Border Patrol data indicated that more than 10,000 people were taken into custody Tuesday for illegally entering the country, far below Trump’s claim.

Ortiz believes that the recent increase in migrants is due to a surge, and that once Title 42 is rescinded, it will not be a free-for-all along the border. Border Patrol agents will continue to perform their duties and process illegal immigrants under normal protocols rather than expelling them.

What You Can Do:

Remember: Immigration is a complex issue that requires thoughtful and compassionate solutions. Let’s work together to create a more just and humane system.
