Steve Garvey considering running for Dianne Feinstein’s Senate seat.

MLB Legend Steve Garvey Considers Running for Senate in California

Steve Garvey, the former All-Star and National League MVP, is reportedly considering running for the Senate seat in California next year. The 74-year-old MLB legend has been meeting with top GOP donors and party leaders as he weighs his options for the state’s marquee Senate primary in March.

“He is seriously considering entering the race. He’s concerned about the same issues facing all Californians, out of control cost-of-living and high taxes, rising crime and lack of opportunities.”

– Andy Gharakhani, Political Consultant

Garvey’s name recognition could give him an advantage as a Republican running in solidly blue California, but he still faces an uphill battle to victory. The state operates with a “jungle primary” system, where candidates from all parties compete to be one of two finalists in the general election.

The Race for the Senate Seat

On the Democratic side, the race to replace Sen. Dianne Feinstein is between Reps. Adam Schiff, Katie Porter, and Barbara Lee, with Schiff leading the polls by a significant margin.

LA-based attorney Eric Early is the only Republican in the contest thus far, campaigning as a hard-line conservative. Garvey, on the other hand, has aligned himself with centrists in the state like Rep. Michelle Steel, whom he headlined a fundraiser for earlier this week.

Garvey’s Decision

Garvey has not yet made a final decision on whether to run for office, but he has been approached by leaders from both sides of the aisle. He expects to make a decision “in the next few weeks.”

“I have been approached to run for office and am exploring that. No announcement is imminent.”

– Steve Garvey

If Garvey can convince California voters to coalesce around him in next March’s blanket primary, he could find himself in second place and on his way to the general election.

Conclusion

Garvey’s potential entry into the race adds another layer of intrigue to an already competitive contest. With the primary just a few months away, all eyes will be on California to see who will come out on top.
