August Social Security direct payment worth $994 goes out in 20 days

In August 2026, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments of up to $994 will be issued to eligible recipients within 20 days. Typically, SSI payments are sent on the first day of each month; though, if the first falls on a weekend or holiday, they are issued on the last business day of the previous month. since August 1, 2026, falls on a Saturday, recipients will receive their benefits on July 31. SSI supports low-income individuals who are blind, elderly (65+), or disabled, with payment amounts varying based on factors such as household size-all contingent on citizenship or qualified immigration status. Recipients must reside in one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, or the Northern Mariana Islands, and not be away from the U.S. for full calendar months or over 30 days. In addition to the previous prerequisites for receiving SSI payments, recipients must also be U.S. citizens or noncitizens in one of the alien classifications granted by the Department of Homeland Security.
