Jon Stewart jests about media hyping Trump trial: ‘Is this OJ all over again?

Comedian Jon⁣ Stewart humorously criticized how the media is portraying ex-President Donald Trump’s legal battles, pointing out the irony of their coverage. ‍He singled ⁤out CNN and MSNBC for their previous claims of overcovering Trump before the 2016 election. Stewart showcased recent footage from these outlets, mocking⁢ their labeling of Trump’s trial as the ”trial of‍ the century,” reminiscent of the OJ Simpson trial’s⁤ impact on media.

Comedian Jon Stewart poked fun at how the media are covering former President Donald Trump’s legal battles, joking that many outlets are doing the opposite of what they said they would do.

The late-night host blasted multiple media outlets, including CNN and MSNBC, when they argued that they gave the former president too much coverage ahead of the 2016 election. Stewart then played recent footage from all of these outlets covering Trump’s trial, with most of these outlets describing it as “the trial of the century,” in a nod to O.J. Simpson’s 1995 trial.

“Seriously, are we going to follow this guy to court every f***ing day?” Stewart said. “Are you trying to make this O.J.? It’s not a chase — he’s commuting! So the media’s first attempt, the very first attempt of a first day of self-control, failed,” he said on Monday’s episode of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show.

The comedian then played several clips of CNN anchors overanalyzing photos of Trump in the courtroom, with one anchor interrupting an interview to showcase the first photo released. Another clip from CNN featured the anchor looking into a sketch from the courtroom, with Stewart questioning the importance of analyzing the sketch to viewers.

“It’s a sketch!” Stewart said. “Why would anyone analyze a sketch? It’d be like looking at The Last Supper and going, ‘Why do you think Jesus looks so sad here? What do you think, is it ’cause of Judas?’”

Stewart noted how “something important and revelatory” will likely happen during Trump’s trial but that most people will not care because outlets are spending hours poring over “the most mundane bulls***.” He also joked that Trump has had “the most normal” reaction to his trials, referencing how some outlets reported that the former president appeared to fall asleep during his past trials.

Monday marked the start of Trump’s first criminal trial, which relates to his 34-count hush money indictment in Manhattan. Trump has pleaded not guilty to the 34 counts and has also denied having any sexual encounters with porn star Stormy Daniels.
