The Majority of Americans Believe in Two Genders, Poll Finds

A new poll conducted by Rasmussen Reports has found that 71% of likely voters in the United States believe that there are only two genders: male and female. This includes 67% of Democrats, who surprisingly agreed with the statement. The poll also revealed that 57% of all respondents strongly disagree with the idea that there are more than two genders.

It’s bizarre that this is even a debate. Think about the science. You’re born either a boy or a girl. That’s a fact. Sure, once you’re on the planet, you can do whatever you want, pick one of those 107 genders. But you were born male or female, there’s just no getting around that.

The poll results come at a time when many companies are showing support for the LGBTQ+ community during Pride Month. However, some of these efforts have backfired, with Anheuser-Busch and Target both facing backlash and boycotts. Bud Light sales have reportedly dropped by 30% since the beer brand partnered with transgender social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney, while Target has lost $13 billion in market value over the past two weeks due to protests against their Pride Collection.

Support for Laws Restricting Transgender Treatments for Minors

The Rasmussen Reports poll also found that a majority of Americans support laws that ban hormone replacement therapy and sex changes for people under 18 years old. Sixty-two percent of Americans approve of legislation making it illegal to perform sex-change surgery on minors, while 59% approve of laws making it illegal to give hormone replacement therapy to minors. Even a majority of Democrats agreed that people younger than 18 should not have access to sex-change treatments.

At least 18 states already have laws or policies in place that restrict transgender treatments for minors. However, Democrats and President Joe Biden have criticized these laws, calling them an affront to democracy.

“I’ve met a lot of parents of trans kids in the past couple of months who have told me these devastating stories, whether they’re in Texas or Oklahoma or wherever they are, saying how they now have to seriously consider leaving their state to protect their child,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in May. “That’s something that we have to call out and continue to be very clear about. These are kids. These are our kids. They belong to all of us.”

Mark Mitchell, head pollster at Rasmussen, believes that the backlash against companies pushing Pride could be driving state restrictions on transgender treatments for children and the growing opposition among Americans. “That would be pretty ironic if their little publicity stunt is what essentially caused a massive 13-point swing in support in favor of laws banning transgender treatment,” he said.
