World Anti-Doping Agency approves reforms

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is making some changes. On Thursday, the organization announced it was adding two members to the executive committee with one of them being an athlete.
Additionally, membership in the Athletes Council will increase from 12-to-20 athletes, including those appointed by the International Olympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee. These were among a number of reforms approved by the Anti-Doping Agency.
“One establishing code of ethics and the independent ethics board, and the other establishing an anti-doping ombudsman which will be piloted in Europe next year,” stated WADA President Witold Banka. “So, I think it’s a very important project specially for the athletes and another very positive movement, great development.”

While a series of the reforms are aimed at inclusion, some activist groups have said the reforms aren’t enough while calling the changes “more smoke and mirrors.”
