The 2024 presidential race is heating up, and one candidate is determined to stand out from the crowded field. Meet Will Hurd, a former Texas representative and a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump. In an interview with ABC This Week anchor Jonathan Karl, Hurd acknowledged that he may be considered a “dark horse” candidate, but he believes his experience in national security sets him apart.

“I’m a dark horse candidate, I recognize that,” Hurd stated.

A Strong Stance on Ukraine

Hurd made it clear that his commitment to national security extends beyond American borders. He pledged his unwavering support for Ukraine, especially in the wake of a recent revolt by the paramilitary Wagner Group in Russia. According to Hurd, these events highlight the urgent need for leaders with “real experience” in national security matters.

“It’s unfortunate that the two leading Republican nominees for president, Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis, have the wrong policy on Ukraine,” Hurd expressed.

Hurd believes that while Trump may have had some good ideas, he lacked the ability to effectively leverage the U.S. government. As for DeSantis, Hurd believes he lacks the necessary experience in foreign policy.

A Strong Critique of the Biden Administration

Not one to shy away from criticism, Hurd also took aim at the Biden administration. He accused them of “wringing their hands and doing nothing” in response to the mercenary group’s rebellion in Russia. Hurd’s strong stance on Ukraine extends to pushing for the removal of Russian forces from Crimea and the Donbas region.

“We should be making sure that we’re supporting Ukraine and pushing the Russians out of Crimea, out of the Donbas,” Hurd emphasized.

He also expressed hope that Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s comments about supporting Ukraine were simply a case of misspeaking.

A Vision for America’s Future

When questioned about why voters should choose him over the numerous candidates, including Trump, Hurd highlighted the failures of the past two administrations in building strong alliances in the western hemisphere. He believes that every American should care about this issue because the Chinese government is actively seeking to surpass the United States as a global superpower.

“Every American should care because the Chinese government is trying to surpass us as a global superpower,” Hurd emphasized.

As the 2024 presidential race unfolds, Will Hurd aims to prove that being a dark horse candidate doesn’t mean he lacks the experience or vision needed to lead the nation.
