The Whole Foods store in downtown San Francisco has shut down its operations because of the escalating crime and drug abuse problems in the vicinity. The move was confirmed by The San Francisco Standardreports and was made less than two years after the store officially opened.

Whole Foods officials stated that they decided to close the flagship store indefinitely after access to the store’s premises became increasingly difficult due to worsening street conditions. The company also declared that it will reevaluate the reopening of the Trinity location once the safety of the team members is guaranteed.

The closure of this grocery store comes amid a surge in crime rates in San Francisco. The city’s rising crime epidemic was highlighted last month when a CNN correspondent got robbed during an interview on the subject. Additionally, a report showed that the possibility of a San Francisco resident falling victim to property or violent crime is 1 in 16.

In a related story, the California Attorney General, Rob Bonta, recently blamed car manufacturers Kia and Hyundai for the increasing theft of automobiles in the state after teenagers started sharing instructions for stealing cars on the TikTok platform. Reports say that the authorities have now recorded an upsurge in car theft in the state.
