Whitmer is latest Democrat to dodge on party’s Biden cover-up – Washington Examiner
In a recent CNN interview, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, a co-chair of President Biden’s campaign, avoided directly addressing concerns over Biden’s mental acuity as the 2024 election approaches. When questioned about signs of decline in Biden, she noted her limited contact wiht him, stating she was focused on her own campaign activities and had not read a new book highlighting these issues. This book, titled *Original Sin*, discusses the alleged cover-up of Biden’s cognitive decline, particularly highlighting an incident where he reportedly failed to recognize actor George Clooney. Whitmer’s comments come amid rising scrutiny of the Biden administration’s management of these concerns. Othre Democratic leaders, such as House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, echoed sentiments of looking forward rather than reflecting on past issues.Whitmer also pondered whether Trump would have won had Biden dropped out of the race sooner, expressing ambiguity on the matter.
Whitmer is latest Democrat to dodge on party’s Biden cover-up
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) side-stepped answering questions on former President Joe Biden’s mental decline, suggesting that she did not “frequently” see the president ahead of the 2024 election.
The Biden administration’s cover-up of concerns over the former president’s mental acuity has gained newfound attention ahead of the release of a new book, Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again, by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson. Biden chose to drop his reelection bid less than a month after his first debate with then-presidential candidate Donald Trump, which drew widespread attention to his mental decline at the time.
While appearing on CNN, Whitmer, the co-chairwoman of Biden’s campaign, was asked what signs of decline she saw in the president, to which she said she had “not read the book.”
“I can tell you this, that if, as the book reports, Cabinet members didn‘t have access, that tells you that, as a governor in a state, you know, halfway across the country who was working her tail off, 160 stops on a bus tour that I headlined through swing states, I didn‘t — you know, I was busy working,” Whitmer stated. “I was busy doing the connection and the voter registration, and so I can’t speak to that directly. I didn’t see the president frequently, and I can tell you I can’t speak to that directly.”
When asked if she believed Trump would have won if Biden had dropped his reelection bid sooner or chosen not to run at all, Whitmer stated, “Maybe, maybe not.” She added that the 2024 election cycle made her “question a lot of things” she thought she had known over the last year.
The Michigan governor’s comments on Biden come after House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) was asked about the new book, which states that Biden did not recognize Hollywood icon George Clooney. Jeffries said he could not explain this, and that the party is not “looking backward” and instead is looking toward the future.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) recently mirrored Jeffries’s comments, stating that the Democratic Party is “looking forward.” When pressed by CNN anchor Kasie Hunt if that was all he wanted to say, Schumer simply replied, “That’s it.”
COMING TO TERMS WITH THE BIDEN SENILITY COVER-UP
On Sunday, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) suggested that Democrats would have been “served better” had the party held a proper presidential primary after Biden bowed out of the race.
Upon dropping out of the 2024 election, Biden gave his endorsement to then-Vice President Kamala Harris, who went on to lose to Trump in the general election.
