The White House is reportedly considering building a helipad on the South Lawn to reduce damage caused by frequent Marine One landings and takeoffs. The concern has focused on the heavier VH-92A patriot helicopter, whose exhaust is said to burn the South Lawn’s grass-forcing the Marine Corps to keep using the older VH-3D Sea King instead of fully transitioning to the new aircraft.
The plan, described by people familiar with it,has no set timeline and may face opposition from liberal groups that have criticized other Trump renovation projects. The helipad idea is also reportedly under consideration for Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence.

Concern has been raised for years about the damage to the South Lawn’s grass from the much heavier and more powerful VH-92A Patriot helicopter, which is replacing the older VH-3D Sea King to serve as Marine One. President Donald Trump is looking to carry out yet another renovation of the White House, solving this problem by installing a helipad, according to people familiar with the matter speaking with the Wall Street Journal.
