White House Hasn’t Used Word “Christian” Once in Discussing Nashville Shooting
The Biden administration’s reaction to Monday’s deadly shooting at a Christian school has been unusual. Despite the fact that the shooter identified as transgender and attacked a Presbyterian school, there has been no acknowledgement from the administration that this was an attack on a Christian school.
During his initial public address on Monday, President Biden failed to mention the Covenant School specifically, and his subsequent comments failed to acknowledge the Christian nature of the school.
While the President did make a flippant remark when asked about the targeting of Christians by the shooter, he did not mention the word “Christian” or “Christians” on his personal or government Twitter accounts, nor did he mention it in his official proclamation of the fatal shooting.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre did utter the word “Christian” in calling on a reporter named Christian, but this was the closest acknowledgment by the administration of a potential motivating factor in the shooting. Instead, the administration repeatedly showed solidarity with the transgender community in their messaging, considering them to be under relentless attack from Republicans.
The fact that the administration has not highlighted the Christian nature of the school in their response to the shooting has led many to question why. Some have suggested that if a mosque or synagogue had been attacked, it would be front and center of the administration’s messaging. Others speculate as to why the supposedly devout Catholic, President Biden, has not mentioned his fellow Christians.
