White House defends Small Business Administration anti-pandemic fraud efforts

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre discounted criticism raised by some Republicans that the Small Business Administration is not doing enough to modernize its practices and address pandemic-era fraud.

During a recent hearing with SBA Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman, Rep. Roger Williams( R-TX ), the chairman of the House Small Business Committee, specifically brought up the above complaints. Watchdog groups have found billions in fraudulent payments made to loan applicants during the pandemic era.

” The SBA was asked to step up in ways that they never had to before during the COVID – 19 epidemic.” The after-action stories revealed there were serious issues within the business, despite the fact that they were able to obtain cash out the door quickly. Williams stated in his opening remarks at the Guzman hearing that an unorganized management structure and a lack of fundamental safeguards to stop fraud resulted in intolerable amounts of taxpayer money being wasted. There have been recent tips that could have addressed some of these crimes, despite the fact that most prior findings have demonstrated what can be done to stop fraud. However, it appears that the SBA is truly considering these suggestions.

” America’s large business sector is reviving.” When asked about Williams’ remarks during the press briefing on Monday, Jean-Pierre replied to the Washington Examiner,” It’s growing, and a lot of it is because of the function that this president has done these first two years.” ” We have seen 10.5 million products for large companies.” This is a result of the play we’ve done, beginning with the American Rescue Plan, and the way we handled COVID relief, ensuring that our economy develops from the bottom up and outward.

According to Jean-Pierre, SBA” has scaled up its use of technologies and focused customer service and understanding, increasing mobility, streamlining processes, and delivering comprehensive guidance across our programs.”

They have been able to deliver on historical outcomes as a result, she said. According to the data, SBA has completed the task as a result of the government’s leader.
