White House backs Patel after reported frustration over his social media

White House officials have publicly defended FBI Director Kash Patel amid reports criticizing his social media activity and travel habits. Communications Director Steven Cheung dismissed claims of frustration over Patel, including a report that he canceled a trip to Chicago allegedly due to management discontent over a mocking tweet.Cheung emphasized that there was no frustration and that many officials supported Patel’s posts.

Additionally, there were reports that Patel was reprimanded by White House officials for making a satirical comment about an opinion article criticizing his lifestyle, though Patel confirmed he was at the White House but disputed the report’s implications. He also responded dismissively to allegations from MS NOW regarding his behaviour, asserting that the onyl confirmed fact was his presence at the White House.

Patel was expected to visit Chicago over the weekend but canceled his trip shortly before departure. His girlfriend, Alexis Wilkins, filed a lawsuit against MS NOW over a 2025 report claiming Patel made requests related to her security detail, wich the FBI denied. The controversy continues as questions about Patel’s activities and travel are publicly scrutinized.

White House officials jumped to FBI Director Kash Patel‘s defense after reports surfaced that administration officials were frustrated with his social media activity and alleged globe-trotting.

White House communications director Steven Cheung defended Patel against MS NOW reports that suggested he canceled a trip to see his girlfriend in Chicago due to frustration from administration personnel over a post Patel made mocking the outlet’s reporting.

“Completely false,” Cheung said. “There has been no frustration over his tweet this morning. I reposted his tweet. Other White House officials reposted his tweet.”

Cheung backed the agency director following a report from MS NOW that claimed congressional Democrats issued a letter inquiring about Patel’s alleged demand that FBI staff arrange a Jet Ski excursion and other activities on official trips.

Patel then posted a screen grab of the article’s graphic and said, “Nah, my jet ski is gold plated … [dumba**].”

“Your job is to lie,” Patel went on. “Mine is to protect the American people, and business is good!”

The report Patel was referencing was an opinion article that argued the FBI director’s alleged “lavish lifestyle he seems to be enjoying at least in part on the taxpayer’s dime” could have its limits, as Patel does not have the same “invincibility” that covers President Donald Trump.

Cheung, however, was taking aim at a report from MS NOW citing unnamed sources that Patel was reprimanded by Trump administration officials for having made a dig at the opinion piece. The outlet also said its own reporting that Patel was engaging in leisure activities on official trips was cited by the White House in their alleged reprimanding.

Patel later bashed the report about his White House meeting, confirming that it happened but disputing its purpose.

“The only thing worse than MS NOW’s garbage rebrand is their reporting — all false except one thing — I was at the White House, true, and the fake news will find out why soon,” Patel said, referring to MS NOW changing from MSNBC.

Patel was slated to visit his girlfriend, country music artist Alexis Wilkins, in Chicago over the weekend, where she is performing at a music festival. The FBI director was also supposed to visit a field office in the Windy City, but he canceled his trip just before departure Friday morning, MS NOW reported.

Patel’s girlfriend filed a lawsuit against MS NOW last month over a report in December 2025 based on anonymous sources that Patel had called the members of Wilkins’s security detail and requested they give rides home to her friends after nights of drinking in Nashville, Tennessee. The FBI vehemently denied the report’s allegations.
