FBI accused of political corruption by whistleblowers: Washington Photos of the Week.

FBI Whistleblowers Allege Political ‘Rot’ at Bureau

Three FBI agents testified before Congress on Thursday, alleging abuse and retaliation within the bureau. Stephen Friend, Garret O’Boyle, and Marcus Allen claimed that the FBI has become politicized and corrupt at the top levels of the agency. House Republicans authored a report on their claims, supporting the whistleblowers. However, Democrats declined to recognize the witnesses as legitimate whistleblowers, instead calling them “men who lost their security clearances because they were a threat to our national security.”

Retaliation and Denial

O’Boyle, who is suspended from the FBI, told the House Judiciary Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government that the FBI will crush anyone who speaks out against them. The FBI, however, denied retaliation and pushed out a letter before the hearing saying two men, Friend and Allen, had their security clearances stripped for conduct surrounding the Jan. 6 Capitol riot investigation.

Debt Ceiling Negotiations

Meanwhile, debt ceiling negotiations continued between President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as Republicans seek concessions on spending cuts in exchange for raising the government’s borrowing authority. The prospect of the government defaulting on debt obligations as soon as June 1 without congressional action loomed over Washington this week.
