‘Where’s Hunter?’: Hunter Biden launches Substack column
Hunter Biden has reemerged publicly this summer with increased activity on social media and podcasts, and he has recently taken on a new role as a writer. He announced on Wednesday that he’s joined Substack, a self-publishing platform, where he will publish a column titled “Where’s Hunter?”, playfully referencing a phrase from Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign. On Wednesday, the son of former President Joe Biden announced that he’s joined Substack, the online self-publishing platform favored by independent journalists, pundits, and other media figures. Biden’s column will be titled “Where’s Hunter?,” a tongue-in-cheek nod to an ad-lib President Donald Trump debuted on the 2020 campaign trail while facing off against the elder Biden.

“You’re here because you followed me somewhere before,” Biden wrote in a Wednesday morning introductory note to his subscribers, many of whom appear to have been auto-enrolled based on their following of Biden on other platforms. “The website, the art, or maybe just the noise. Wherever it was, thank you for staying. I want to tell you what this is now. I’ve started writing, properly, in my own hand. The first draft of the last seven years. The essays. The paintings. The recovery writing underneath all of it.”
Biden’s first post was published Wednesday afternoon, titled “The Courage to See,” which features flowery prose regarding addiction, recovery, redemption, and his own emotions at seeing his art displayed in the home of a friend. The post is capped with an embedded image of Biden’s “Self Portrait #6.”

Earlier this summer, Biden, whom the previous administration sought to keep far from the public spotlight, burst onto the scene. Biden has been particularly critical of CNN’s Jake Tapper, who published a book after Joe Biden left office detailing an alleged orchestrated cover-up by White House staff of the 46th president’s failing physical and cognitive health. In addition to his political commentary, Biden posts about culture, the Philadelphia Eagles, and his personal life, and he steadily interacts with his followers.
Meanwhile, he’s become a mainstay on the podcast circuit. During an appearance on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher this past Friday, he suggested that his foray into the spotlight is primarily aimed at helping other people struggling with addiction and recovery.
“There are 50 million Americans that are still sick and suffering every day from addiction, and I get to go out there and I get to speak to them,” he said.

Still, Biden’s busy summer has drawn speculation about a future political run for the younger Biden, which he himself has discounted.
“No, I haven’t,” he answered Friday when asked by Maher if he had thought about running for the presidency in 2028. “Here’s my thing: if I announce for president, then somebody should check and see if I relapsed.”
