21-Year-Old College Student Arrested in Connection with Serial Stabbings in California

Fear and panic spread throughout the town of Davis, California, home to the University of California, Davis, after a series of stabbings left two people dead and another injured. But after a weeklong hunt, the Davis Police Department announced the arrest of a college sophomore in connection with the attacks.

The Arrest

Thanks to 15 tips called into the police, officers were able to locate the suspect wandering around Sycamore Park. Upon searching him, they found a large fixed blade knife and determined that he was a “person of interest” in the recent attacks. The suspect was taken to the police department for further questioning, where officers collected significant evidence from his person, including clothing that matched the description provided after the third attack.

The Victims

  • David Henry Breaux, a 50-year-old homeless man, was found with “very significant” stab wounds on April 27.
  • 20-year-old college student Karim Abou Najm was attacked in Sycamore Park on April 29 and later died of his injuries.
  • A 64-year-old homeless woman was stabbed through her tent on Monday. After surgery, she is in stable condition.

Davis Mayor Will Arnold expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and the community, saying that their sense of security and normalcy has been fractured, but their sense of unity has never been stronger.

Police Chief Darren Pytel praised the community for stepping up and providing tips that aided in the arrest, saying that they may have saved more lives. The suspect, a 21-year-old college student, is now in custody and will face justice for his alleged crimes.
