WATCH: Tucker Carlson Explains How ‘Democrats Are Making Gun Violence Possible’

Fox News’ Tucker Carlson on Thursday blasted Democrats and President Joe Biden’s ATF Director nominee, David Chipman, for “making gun violence possible” in the United States.

The Fox News host cited D.C. Police Commander John Haines’ directive for law enforcement officers to focus on looking for illegal firearms as a prime example.

“The party that thinks guns cause violence is no longer pulling them off the street. Why? Because it’s racially insensitive,” Carlson explained. “Aren’t they telling us out of the other side of their mouth that our guns are their problem? Right. Your guns. Not the criminal’s guns. Your guns. Because you’re the criminal now.”

Despite having some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, Chicago has been consistently ranked one of the most dangerous cities in America. As The Daily Wire previously reported, Chicago has seen an uptick in violence, with 298 shooting victims so far in 2021. This time last year, that number sat at 175 victims.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has repeatedly said violence in the city is a result of firearms that were purchased in other states and illegally brought into Illinois.

“Everything [the Democrats] say is untrue and provably so,” Carlson said. “There’s no issue in which they lie more than this one, which tells you a lot.”

According to Carlson, Lightfoot’s statement about out-of-state guns is “a shocking lie” that can be proven false with “Chicago’s own data. Most violent crimes in Illinois are committed with guns purchased in the state.”

Lightfoot and the Democrats pushing gun control, however, are focused on so-called “assault rifles,” even though the majority of violent crimes in the Windy City are carried out with semi-automatic handguns.

“Rifles are not a real threat in Chicago and they have not been in a long time, if ever,” Carlson said.

The city’s most recent data, from 2011, shows that just one murder took place with a rifle. The reason Lightfoot and her colleagues are laser-focused on “assault weapons,” according to Carlson, is because average Americans own them.

“That’s what they want to take away. Why? Because you own it, not the criminals,” he explained.

Part of Chicago’s gun violence can be traced back to Cook County Prosecutor Kim Foxx, who dropped cases with serious gun crimes “as a matter of policy.”

“They’re not worried about gun crime. They’re worried about you protecting yourself. And not just in Chicago, but across the country,” Carlson said. “Criminals who commit violence with guns are going free. Murders are hitting record levels. Meanwhile, you haven’t hurt anyone. You haven’t done anything wrong.”

“They’re not trying to control guns,” he said. “They’re trying to control you.”

If Democrats were serious about getting to the root cause of “gun violence,” they would prosecute those who lie on the ATF’s 4473 form, which is required to complete a background check. They would charge felons who are using firearms to commit crimes, not just for the act – like burglary or carjacking – but also for using a gun to carry out their crime.

They could start out with prosecuting Hunter Biden for lying on his 4473 background check form and illegally obtaining a firearm.
