WATCH LIVE: Bidens host arts and humanities award ceremony
President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden are presenting the National Humanities Medals and National Medal of Arts for 2021. The awards ceremony is happening at the White House.
The recipients of the arts awards include Mindy Kaling, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Vera Wang, Bruce Springsteen, among others. Meanwhile, the humanities awards are given to Amy Tan, Richard Blanco, Earl Lewis, and more.
The arts and humanities awards are the highest awards given to artists, arts patrons, and groups who have shown outstanding achievements, support or patronage. It honors their remarkable contribution to the arts and humanities in the United States.
These programs aim to deepen our understanding of the humanities and enhance our citizens’ engagement with subjects like history, literature, languages, and philosophy. In September 2022, Biden awarded a National Humanities Medal to Elton John.
The ceremony started at 4:30 in the afternoon on Wednesday.
