VIDEO: Kamala Emphasizes Duty to Assume Presidency if Needed
Vice President Kamala Harris: Ready to Take the Lead
Vice President Kamala Harris expressed her unwavering commitment to assume the role of the chief executive if necessary, emphasizing her clarity on the matter. In an interview with the Associated Press, she highlighted the responsibility that comes with taking the oath of office, stating that every vice president understands the potential need to step into the role of president. Harris firmly believes that she is no exception to this.
Americans’ Reservations
However, many Americans harbor reservations about Harris assuming the presidency in place of Joe Biden. According to FiveThirtyEight’s polling average, 51% of Americans disapprove of the vice president, while just under 40% approve.
Challenges for Democrats
Democratic elites face a challenging situation, as highlighted by 86-year-old Dennis DeConcini, a former Democratic senator from Arizona. DeConcini acknowledged the difficulties faced by Democrats due to Biden’s age, stating that he himself shares the same concern. While DeConcini considers Biden a decent individual, he believes that Harris would struggle to win an election if she were to run.
DeConcini further emphasized that the Democrats are somewhat “stuck” with Biden as their candidate due to the potential challenges of electing Harris.
Republican Attacks
Republican presidential candidates have seized upon Americans’ dissatisfaction with Harris to launch attacks against Biden in the upcoming 2024 campaign. Former South Carolina governor and ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, warned that a vote for Biden is essentially a vote for Harris. She expressed concern over the prospect of a President Kamala Harris, urging Americans to resist such an outcome.
