Hamas soldiers wasted no time in capitalizing on their rapid mass infiltration, launching attacks on civilians and assaulting any police or soldiers they encountered.
The swift movements of the fighters appeared to overwhelm the initial Israeli response.
A video highlighting the initial success of the violent militants shows them standing triumphantly on a captured Israeli tank.
In the footage, the armed men can be seen atop a smoldering piece of Israeli armor. The tank was likely abandoned shortly after its capture, as smoke pouring from the vehicle indicates it was completely disabled.

A comprehensive video of the assault shows militants on motorcycles breaching a border area, disabling the tank, and dragging out its crew. The video, which contains graphic content, can be viewed here.
However, not all infiltration attempts were successful.
A clip taken from the shore shows an Israeli warship engaging fast boats filled with militants. Judging by the rate of effective fire seen in the video, it seems unlikely that either of these boats was able to land its passengers.
