WATCH: Fox News Grills Senate Candidate Dr. Oz On When Life Begins, Oz Refuses To Answer

U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz, who is running as a Republican in Pennsylvania, was grilled by Fox News “Primetime” host Will Cain on Wednesday on issues that matter most to conservative voters, including guns and abortion.

Cain took a skeptical approach to Dr. Oz, saying before questioning him that he did not know that Dr. Oz had claimed to be a Republican or that he held conservative views.

The most newsworthy portion of the interview came when Cain pressed Dr. Oz on his views surrounding abortion, specifically on when Dr. Oz believes that life begins.

“As a senator, how would you vote?” Cain asked on abortion. “What do you think the laws should be on abortion?”

“I’m pro-life,” Dr. Oz claimed. “I do believe in three exceptions, the health for the mother being the primary one, but rape and incest as well. And I would vote to ensure that if the judiciary is reviewing an abortion law that they follow the Constitution, it’s quite clear. That Alabama case is in point did not include those exceptions.”

“But, Dr. Oz, that’s currently being debated at the Supreme Court. So, setting aside the exceptions, which I appreciate, what about, what is your position as both a doctor and a senatorial candidate on when life begins?” Cain asked. “When should we draw the line when abortion is is legal?”

“As a doctor, I appreciate the sanctity of life,” Dr. Oz responded. “And for that reason, I’m strongly pro-life with the three exceptions I’ve mentioned. That’s how I would vote.”

“And when does that life begin?” Cain asked.

“You know, I get it. If I’m pro life, then that’s a decision that comes back to the sanctity of when you think life does begin,” Dr. Oz responded. “And I believe it begins when you’re in the mother’s womb.”

“When you’re in the mother’s womb?” Cain asked. “But that that carries you all the way up to nine months of pregnancy.”

“No, of course not,” Dr. Oz claimed. “Life’s already started when you’re in your mother’s womb. It’s a rathole to get trapped into different ways of talking about it. We need as a nation to make sure the Constitution is appropriately followed. And people like me and you may be in the same camp, who are pro life, have our feelings respected. And this is something that should not be taken away from us by judiciary legislating from the bench.”

TRANSCRIPT:

WILL CAIN, FOX NEWS HOST: Dr. Oz, I watched you last night. I’ll be honest, I didn’t know that you held conservative beliefs. I didn’t know that should you run for office than you would run as a Republican. And to be quite honest, I don’t know that many people knew what your political core was, or your principles might be. And there are some, if we’re to state the obvious here, there are some out there who are concerned. Are you truly a principled conservative, and they point to some of the things you’ve said, over time on guns or abortion, or whatever it may be. What can you tell us about your principles?

DR. OZ, U.S. SENATE CANDIDATE: I stand by what I’ve said, and my show tackles controversial topics. Just because I have a show on a topic doesn’t mean that I agree with what some of the guests are saying, but I’m pro life. I’m pro Second Amendment. You know, folks ought to be, you know, a lawful abiding individual should be able to own a gun. And then, you know, there’s many other examples where I am conservative, and these are the values I was raised with. And when I came home to Pennsylvania, last year, I knew darn well exactly how I would campaign because I aligned very closely with Republican primary voters in this wonderful state. And I’ve been traveling the entire state since we launched two weeks ago. And I keep hearing the same resonating message, thank goodness you’re here, we agree. You articulate it in a way that’s not divisive. You unify us, you make us feel proud of who we are. And what you’re witnessing with Twitter, getting back to the earlier topic, is the shocking reality is you have to fight to say what you see, you can’t even articulate what you believe to be true anymore. And as a conservative, we got to do that.

CAIN: But if I might, Dr. Oz, I just, it’s a unique opportunity to get to talk to you as you run for Senate and to understand what makes you tick and what your thoughts are and what the people of Pennsylvania might be voting on. And so
