Byron Donalds slams media for Bowman’s ‘7th grade’ punishment.
Watch: Byron Donalds Torches Media Over Bowman’s ‘7th Grade’ Punishment
The punishment handed down to Democratic Rep. Jamaal Bowman of New York for his fire alarm stunt on Capitol Hill has become a subject of ridicule for Republican Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida.
Bowman, who pleaded guilty to falsely pulling a fire alarm, will pay a $1,000 fine and write a letter of apology, according to the New York Post.
In a video posted on social media platform X, Donalds expressed his disbelief at the punishment, saying, “What was it? A misdemeanor? He has to pay a fine? Is that what happened?”
When informed about the letter of apology Bowman has to write to the Capitol Police, Donalds sarcastically remarked, “What, are we in seventh grade?”
Congressman @ByronDonalds destroys the #FakeNews media and exposes the two standards of justice when asked about congressman Bowman pulling the fire alarm, and the stolen 2020 election, then answers my question on the border security.

Donalds further criticized the uneven punishments for disrupting Congress, comparing it to the events of January 6th. He questioned why some individuals involved in the Capitol incursion received longer sentences while Bowman only had to write a letter.
Donalds expressed his concerns about the justice system in the District of Columbia, suggesting that it operates differently based on political party affiliations.
When asked about the vote to certify the 2020 election, Donalds emphasized that members of Congress are elected to represent their constituents and have the right to vote as they choose. He criticized the press and judges for trying to determine the qualifications of elected officials.
Bowman dismissed comparisons between his actions and the January 6th protesters, calling it “crazy” and accusing his critics of diverting attention from their own party’s dysfunction.
Video evidence has since emerged showing Bowman removing warning signs before pulling the fire alarm, leading to calls for punishment from the House Ethics Committee.
Kendra Arnold, executive director of the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust, stated that the video contradicts Bowman’s previous statement and calls for serious consequences to deter such behavior in the future.
