Byron Donalds slams media for Bowman’s ‘7th grade’ punishment.

Watch:⁣ Byron Donalds Torches Media Over Bowman’s ‘7th Grade’ Punishment

The punishment handed ‌down to Democratic Rep. Jamaal⁤ Bowman‍ of⁤ New York for his fire alarm ⁢stunt ⁣on⁤ Capitol ⁣Hill has become a subject of ridicule for Republican Rep. Byron Donalds ⁣of Florida.

Bowman,‌ who pleaded guilty ‌to falsely pulling a fire alarm, will pay ⁤a $1,000 fine and write a letter of apology, according to the New York Post.

In a video posted ⁢on social ⁣media platform X, Donalds expressed ⁣his disbelief at the punishment, saying, “What was it? A misdemeanor? He has ‌to pay a fine? Is ‍that what happened?”

When⁤ informed about the letter of apology ‍Bowman has to write to the Capitol Police, Donalds sarcastically remarked,‍ “What, are we in seventh grade?”

Donalds further criticized⁤ the uneven punishments for disrupting Congress, comparing it to the events of ⁢January 6th. He questioned why some individuals involved in the Capitol incursion received longer sentences while Bowman ⁤only had to write⁤ a letter.

Donalds expressed‌ his concerns about the justice system in the District of Columbia, suggesting that it operates ‌differently based on political party affiliations.

When asked about the vote ⁤to⁢ certify the 2020 election, ‍Donalds emphasized that members of Congress are elected to⁢ represent their constituents and⁣ have the right ⁤to vote as they choose. He criticized the press and judges for ‌trying to determine the qualifications of elected officials.

Bowman dismissed⁤ comparisons between his ⁣actions and ⁤the⁢ January 6th⁤ protesters,⁢ calling it “crazy” ‌and accusing his critics of diverting attention from their own party’s dysfunction.

Video evidence has since emerged showing Bowman removing warning signs ⁢before pulling the fire alarm, ⁣leading to calls⁣ for ⁤punishment from the House Ethics Committee.

Kendra Arnold, executive director of the Foundation for ⁤Accountability and ⁤Civic Trust, stated that⁢ the video contradicts Bowman’s⁢ previous statement and calls ⁤for serious‌ consequences to deter such behavior‌ in the future.
