WATCH: Barrasso Slams Democrats In Fiery Floor Speech For Mishandling Inflation And COVID-19

In a Senate floor speech on Tuesday, Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) lit up Democrats for failing the American people.

The senator focused his criticisms on record-high inflation and the continued spike in COVID-19 cases under the watch of a president who promised to “shut down the virus.”

“Joe Biden now enters his second year in office with record high inflation, record high coronavirus cases and a record low approval rate,” he said. “Now, Joe Biden is breaking all kinds of records and each of these records reflects [an] America that is heading in the wrong direction.”

He went on to argue that the American people have two main concerns: COVID-19 and the daily cost of living. “[These] two issues are not even on the radar of Democrats in Washington, DC,” he accused. “In fact, Democrats have only made these problems worse.”

Barrasso then stated that the Biden administration misled America by claiming inflation was “transitory.”

In December, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said “transitory” should not be used to describe the high levels of inflation. “I am ready to retire the word transitory,” she said at an event sponsored by Reuters, as recorded by The New York Times. “I can agree that that hasn’t been an apt description of what we are dealing with.”

Federal Reserve Chairmen Jerome Powell also agreed that “transitory” is a bad term for the inflation America is experiencing, stating that he expects high inflation through mid-2022. “So I think the word transitory has different meanings to different people,” Powell told Senate Banking Committee Ranking Member Pat Toomey (R-PA) during a hearing. “To many, it carries a time, a sense of short-lived. We tend to use it to mean that it won’t leave a permanent mark in the form of higher inflation. I think it’s probably a good time to retire that word and try to explain more clearly what we mean.”

In his floor speech, Barrasso slammed Vice President Kamala Harris for avoiding questions on the administration’s use of the term “transitory inflation.”

“So what did we hear from the vice president in response to this question has been a great concern to the American people?” he asked.

“What we heard was 118 words of incoherent rambling, like a deer in the headlights on a basic question on the top issue of the day, either the vice president is out of touch with the needs of the American people, or she just didn’t want to admit that the Biden administration had been wrong month after month after month until the inflation numbers hit a 40 year high.”

Barrasso didn’t stop with Biden’s mishandling of the economy. He quickly moved to condemning the president’s response to COVID-19. “Remember when Joe Biden ran for office, he said he was the cure for coronavirus? This guy ought to be sued for medical malpractice,” he gested.

“He came into office with two safe and effective vaccines. Millions of people had already been vaccinated. Yet more Americans have now died from coronavirus under President Joe Biden than under the previous president.”

More Americans have in fact died from COVID-19 under President Biden than did under President Trump. The Daily Wire reported on December 18, “The CDC reported back in January that on January 20, 2021, at 1:16PM, there were 400,306 deaths recorded in the U.S. from the coronavirus. Biden officially became president of the United States at noon on that day. Since then, the number of people who have died from coronavirus under Biden’s watch is now greater than 400,306.”

“The two biggest concerns are the coronavirus and their communities and the cost of living that impacts on the people every day,” Barrasso concluded. “Democrats are failing on both.”
