Vivek Ramaswamy qualifies for initial presidential debate as per RNC standards.
2024 Republican Presidential Candidate Vivek Ramaswamy Qualifies for First Debate
The campaign of Vivek Ramaswamy, a potential Republican presidential candidate for 2024, announced on Saturday that he has met the criteria set by the Republican National Committee (RNC) to qualify for the first debate.
The qualifications include having at least 40,000 individual donors, and Ramaswamy’s campaign proudly states that they have surpassed this number with over 65,000 donors. Additionally, candidates must be polling at least 1% in three separate polls, a requirement that Ramaswamy has also fulfilled.
Strong Polling Numbers and Support
Ramaswamy’s campaign cited two Morning Consult polls showing him at 8%, a Kaplan Strategies poll showing him at 12%, and a Harvard/Harris poll showing him at 10%. RealClearPolitics reports that he currently averages in third place, with a solid 5.9% support.
Furthermore, Ramaswamy has expressed his intention to sign the RNC candidate pledge, which commits him to support the Republican nominee for president, regardless of who it may be. This pledge is another requirement to participate in the upcoming debate.

Ramaswamy’s Perspective
In a statement, Ramaswamy acknowledged the stringent yet fair criteria set by the RNC for the debate stage. He emphasized that as a first-time candidate with low name recognition, no political donors, and no pre-existing fundraising lists, he believes that if an outsider like him can meet the requirements, experienced candidates should be able to as well. He also highlighted the importance of these metrics in determining the ability to defeat Joe Biden in the general election.
The first debate is scheduled for August 23 in Milwaukee and will be hosted by Fox News anchors Brett Baier and Martha MacCallum.
