In a heartfelt statement, Wexton expressed her honesty and transparency, stating, “I’ve always believed that honesty is the most important value in public service, so I want to be honest with you now—this new diagnosis is a tough one. There is no ‘getting better’ with PSP. I’ll continue treatment options to manage my symptoms, but they don’t work as well with my condition as they do for Parkinson’s.”
Heartbroken by the news, Wexton has made the difficult decision not to seek reelection once her term is complete. Instead, she plans to prioritize spending time with her loved ones and cherishing the moments that matter most.

Symptoms
According to the Mayo Clinic, progressive supranuclear palsy is a rare brain disorder that causes severe problems with body movements, balance, and eye coordination.
The symptoms of PSP can vary and may resemble those of Parkinson’s and dementia. Over time, symptoms worsen and may include stiffness, sleep disturbances, depression, swallowing problems, reasoning difficulties, and dizziness, among others.
While there is currently no cure for PSP, there are treatments available to help manage symptoms. These include Parkinson’s disease medications, physical therapy, speech and swallowing evaluations, and lifestyle adjustments.
In April, Wexton revealed that Parkinson’s primarily affected her speech and mouth movements, causing her to speak faster. Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by involuntary movements, muscle stiffness, balance issues, and speech difficulties.
The exact cause of Parkinson’s is unknown, but researchers believe a combination of genetic and environmental factors may contribute to its development. Globally, over 8 million people are affected by the disease, with an estimated annual cost of $14 billion for treatment in the United States alone.
