Vice President Kamala Harris took to X, formerly Twitter, on Monday night to post a video criticizing former President Donald Trump about abortion. Harris blamed Trump for the recent court rulings around the country that restricted the procedure.

“During his campaign in 2016, Donald Trump said, ‘women should be punished for seeking an abortion,’” Harris said in the video clip. “Don’t forget that, he said, ‘women should be punished.’”

Harris continued her criticisms by highlighting that Trump’s three nominations to the Supreme Court, Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett, voted to overturn Roe v. Wade in June 2022.

“As president, Donald Trump hand-picked three members of the United States Supreme Court because he intended – intended for them to overturn Roe,” Harris said. “And as he intended, they did. And now, because of Donald Trump, more than 20 states in our nation have bans. Now, because of Donald Trump, 1 in 3 women of reproductive age in our country live in a state that has a Trump abortion ban.”

Harris was in Las Vegas on Monday for a stop on the “reproductive freedoms” campaign to speak out against the recent Arizona court ruling. She also was working to gather support for the Nevada Right to Reproductive Freedom Amendment, a ballot measure to codify legal access to abortion in the Nevada Constitution. The Biden-Harris administration has made abortion an essential issue in their reelection campaign.

“There is a direct track between what we’ve seen in states like Arizona, what the people of Nevada are fighting for, and who the previous president was,” Harris said at the rally in Las Vegas.

Harris also encouraged supporters to get involved by knocking on doors and other measures to “protect the rights of the people of our country.”

“We are here to say that we’re not going to stand for this,” Harris said. “It is not OK, and we are prepared to organize and to take to the streets and to knock on doors and to text folks and to let everyone know their power at this moment to protect the rights of the people of our country.”
