One Third Of Democrats Support Trump Being Assassinated

Roughly one third of Democrats would like to see President Donald Trump assassinated at a rally, according to a new poll.

A poll conducted by the Center for Strategic Politics found “Democrats want Trump out by (almost) any means necessary” — including assassination.

Respondents were asked how they would feel if they woke up to several hypothetical headlines. Twenty-three percent of respondents said they would feel “very positive” if they saw a headline that said “President Donald Trump was assassinated while speaking at a rally.” Eight percent said they’d feel “somewhat positive” if they saw the news, while 25 percent said they had neither a positive nor negative reaction. Just 43 percent of respondents said they’d feel some degree of negativity if they saw the same news.

Democrats felt positively toward seeing a headline that read “President Donald Trump died overnight in his sleep,” with 45 percent of respondents saying they would feel “very positive” after reading the news and 10 percent feeling “somewhat positive.”

Democrats were also in favor of seeing Trump removed from office via impeachment, a military coup, or the 25th Amendment. The poll was conducted on Sept. 3 and Sept. 8-10 and surveyed 683 Democrat voters.

Perhaps then it’s unsurprising that Trump has been the target of several attempted assassinations with so much of the opposing party desensitized to (and even a fan of) political violence. What should have been a watershed moment more than two years ago when the president was shot at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, has only served to mark the first of many serious close calls on the president’s life.

After narrowly avoiding death on July 13, 2024, would-be assassin Ryan Routh hid in the bushes of Trump’s Florida golf course weeks later with a rifle. Austin Tucker Martin was killed this past February by agents after he breached the security permitter of Mar-a-Lago while armed with a shotgun and a gasoline can and refused commands to drop his weapons. In April, Cole Tomas Allen was arrested for attempting to assassinate Trump and his entire cabinet during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. A few weeks later, Nasire Best was killed outside the White House after he opened fire near a security checkpoint.

The poll also helps explain Democrats’ seeming indifference to elected officials like Jay Jones. Jones, the Virginia attorney general, won his race last year after it was revealed that he fantasized about the deaths of both his Republican colleague and his colleague’s children. It’s the same climate that emboldened Elliot Forhan to run for office in Ohio. Forhan, a former state representative who ultimately lost his bid to be Ohio’s next attorney general, promised to “kill Donald Trump” if elected.

“I want to tell you what I mean when I say that I am going to kill Donald Trump,” Forhan said in a video. “I mean I’m going to obtain a conviction rendered by a jury of his peers at a standard of proof beyond a reasonable doubt based on evidence presented at a trial conducted in accordance with the requirements of due process, resulting in a sentence, duly executed, of capital punishment. That is what I mean when I say I am going to kill Donald Trump.”

In fact, leftists have made clear their stance on political violence even before this Center for Strategic Politics poll. Shortly after Charlie Kirk was assassinated last September, a snap poll was released asking whether it’s OK for someone to be happy when a public figure they oppose is dead. As The Hill reported, “Liberals were again more likely to say it’s usually or always acceptable to be happy about a public figure’s death, with 16 percent holding this position, including 24 percent of ‘very liberal’ respondents and 10 percent who said they identify as liberal but not very liberal.”
