US-Iran ‘technical talks’ ongoing despite tit-for-tat strikes
The United States continues diplomatic negotiations with Iran, despite President Donald Trump declaring the ceasefire “over” during the NATO summit. The ongoing talks are described as “technical” and involve mediators from Gulf states such as Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, and saudi Arabia, attempting to de-escalate tensions and restore the June 17 memorandum of understanding. He stated that the ceasefire is effectively over and indicated that negotiations might be futile.Amid these tensions, Iran and the U.S.exchanged military strikes, with Iran attacking ships and the U.S. responding with targeted airstrikes, highlighting the fragile state of regional security.

“We attacked Kharg Island last night, knocked out a piece,” Trump said Wednesday. “I said, ‘Don’t touch the oil, because maybe we’ll take over Kharg Island.’”
