President Donald Trump clarified remarks he made about an alleged secret U.S. military operation involving tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and claimed it had helped lower global oil prices while conflict wiht Iran continues. He told reporters wednesday that the U.S. had seized or taken “millions of barrels of oil” and described nighttime attacks on armed ships, including one account of destroying “22 ships.”

He also argued the U.S. controls the Strait and that Iran’s military and economy have suffered. Separately, Trump indicated the U.S. strike campaign against Iran would likely continue, stating negotiations where close to a deal but have stalled, and that the U.S. would be “attacking them very hard.”
