US FTC probes OpenAI – Washington Post

(Reuters) – The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has launched an extensive investigation into OpenAI, the creator of the viral chatbot ChatGPT. According to the Washington Post, the FTC claims that OpenAI has violated consumer protection laws, putting personal reputations and data at risk.

In the race to develop more powerful artificial intelligence services like ChatGPT, regulators are relying on outdated laws to control a technology that has the potential to revolutionize societies and businesses.

The FTC has sent a 20-page demand for records to OpenAI, requesting information on how the company addresses risks associated with its AI models, as stated in the report.

Reuters reached out to both the FTC and OpenAI for comment, but there has been no immediate response.
