US Border Patrol Agents Come Under Gunfire While Apprehending Migrants

Border agents in ⁤Texas⁣ had ⁣a close call ⁤on Thursday when they were shot at⁢ from Mexico while apprehending a ⁢group of‍ migrants, according‍ to Border Report.

Fortunately,⁢ no one was ‌injured or‌ hit by any bullets, ⁣as reported by ⁣ Border⁣ Report. It is also believed that no one was ‌apprehended in ‍Mexico in connection with the incident.

“As the group⁤ was being apprehended, ‍agents noticed a⁤ subject south of the border barrier a⁢ handgun ⁣and fire towards the agents,” ‌ Border Patrol said in‍ a statement.

“The agents ⁢immediately⁣ took cover and secured the migrants.”

This incident is just⁢ one of many that ⁣highlight the dangers faced by Border Patrol agents. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data, there have been 271 assaults ⁢on agents between October and June, 421‌ in the entire fiscal year 2022,⁢ and 361 in fiscal year ‌2021.

The FBI El Paso Field⁤ Office Acting ⁢Special Agent ‍in Charge Douglas Goodwater emphasized the seriousness ⁢of these assaults, stating, “Assaults on ⁤Border Patrol agents or any other law ⁢enforcement officer⁣ from any side of the border‍ will not be tolerated and will be‌ investigated swiftly by ‍our office so they can ‍continue to carry out their⁢ sworn duty to protect our community ⁤and nation,” as reported by Border Report.

In a separate⁤ incident, Texas authorities recently arrested two armed individuals believed ‌to be ⁢members of a cartel at the⁤ southern border, according to Fox News. The Texas Department of Public Safety ‌expressed their‍ concern, stating, “There‍ is no greater public‍ safety⁤ and national security threat than the Mexican drug‍ cartels, who ⁢have exploited security vulnerabilities due to an unsecured international border.”

Collaboration between local, county, state, ‍and federal agencies is crucial in ⁢addressing these threats and ensuring the safety‍ of the ‌state and the country.

Requests for comment from CBP and the FBI have gone unanswered.
