US and Iran digitally re-sign deal to end war and open Strait of Hormuz

The United States and Iran virtually renewed their memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, wiht the deal being signed electronically for a second time. The initial digital signing occurred on Sunday, confirmed by U.S. Vice President JD Vance and President Trump. the second signing took place on Wednesday,involving both Trump and Iranian President masoud Pezeshkian,while Trump was at a dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron in France. The formal in-person signing is expected to happen in Switzerland on Friday. The agreement, referred to as a 14-point peace deal with Iran, was signed by key officials from both nations, though the reasons for the second electronic signing remain unclear.


The United States and Iran remotely signed their memorandum of understanding to end the war and open the Strait of Hormuz for the second time on Wednesday, the White House told the Washington Examiner.

The signing comes before the two countries are expected to ink the agreement in person during a meeting in Switzerland on Friday. It was not immediately clear why the deal was signed a second time.

Vice President JD Vance said Monday that the U.S. and Iran had initially digitally signed the agreement on Sunday. Trump on Monday also confirmed that the deal had been electronically signed during comments to reporters from the G7 summit in France. It appears that the agreement was signed by Trump, Vance, and Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf.

On Wednesday, the agreement was electronically signed by officials for a second time, this time by both Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. U.S. officials told Axios Trump signed the document while at a dinner alongside French President Emmanuel Macron.

Esmail Baghaei, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, told Iranian state media the Wednesday agreement was signed by both Trump and Pezeshkian.
