Within the next two decades, United Airlines and Archer Aviation intend to introduce a flying taxi system in Chicago.

The latest delivery and the location where it will be available were announced by Michael Leskinen, President of United Airlines Ventures.

In order to fulfill the promise of electrifying the aerospace industry, Archer and United are both dedicated to decarbonizing air travel and utilizing cutting-edge capabilities. ” Once in operation, we’re excited to provide our customers with a more environmentally friendly, practical, and affordable mode of transportation for their airport commutes.”

Residents will be transported between O’Hare International Airport and downtown Vertiport Chicago by the service, which will use Archer’s Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing ( eVTOL ) craft. Individuals can avoid traffic during rush hour by taking the route, which may have about 10 hours.

At a speed of up to 150 miles per hour, the flying car will be able to transport four United clients on one flight, each of which can travel as far as 100 km.

In a$ 1 billion deal, United Airlines had agreed to buy up to 200 flying taxies from Archer Aviation in 2022. The company’s mission is to assist in the transportation of people” easily, safely, and preferably with minimal environmental impact.”

According to reports, Chicago was chosen as the starting point because it is both the” substance for business, development, and expense” and the location of United Airlines’ corporate headquarters.

The company intends to expand and” tree” out its routes to other nearby areas in the greater Chicago area once the taxis’ main pathways are well established.

According to Chicago Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot,” Modern development thrives around in Chicago, and this walk between Archer and United is yet another example of this power.” This innovative new technology did more transform our transport systems, advancing our fight against climate change. I’m happy that people from Chicago will be among the first in the country to use this cutting-edge, practical mode of transportation.

Governor J. B. Pritzker ( D-Ill. ) praised the business and its strategy, calling it a” bold step” in the state’s move to 100 % clean energy by the year 2050.

As we work to make sure our current aviation base can support this novel and exciting mode of transportation, Pritzker said,” I can’t think of a better company to partner with than Archer and United.”

Each trip from Vertiport to the airport will cost about$ 100, according to a spokeswoman. In order for the business to contend with some products like Uber Black, the price tag was chosen.
